Brisson leads the way for Bears first ever W

The University of Alberta baseball club began their inaugural season by taking on Thompson River University at Mesa Community College early Monday morning. After giving up 3 runs in the first two innings, Bears starter Tanner Karpinski (So.) managed to settle in - striking out 5 and walking 3 over 5 innings. The bears first ever hit would come in the 3rd inning, a single up the middle off the bat of Thurman Matthews (Fr.). The Bears would go on to score 3 times later in the inning with RBI singles from Brett Higgins (Fr.) and Brandon Hill (So.). Hill would come on to relieve Karpinski in the 6th, giving up 2 runs - 1 earned on 3 hits over 3 innings to pick up the win. With 2 outs in the 7th and bases loaded, Mathew Brisson (So.) stole the show by clearing the bases with a 2B to the right-centre gap. Brisson would go on to close the game out in the 9th, picking up the save for the Bears. That win moves University of Alberta to 1-0 while dropping TRU to 0-3 in the 2017 spring campaign. The Bears will be back at it again Tuesday, as they take on the VIBI Mariners @ 3 pm at the Red Mountain Baseball Complex.
